Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society presents: Corey Malcolm
Through careful historical analysis, Corey Malcom has been able to uncover
mysterious information from a slave ship letter from 1819; specifically, the name
of the ship, the letter's writer and receiver, and learn many details of the voyage.
Surprisingly, the study of the letter exposed the active involvement of Pardon C.
Greene in the African slave trade, shortly before he was to become one of Key
West's founding fathers. From the hints of a few cryptic paragraphs, a fascinating
view into the circumstances of an illegal slaving voyage is revealed. Starts at 7 p.
m. at Monroe County Public Library, Auditorium. Free admission.

Headquartered at Key West’s Historic Seaport, competitors vie for first-place
honors and more than $13,000 awaits the angler scoring the highest total

Conch Republic Ladies’ Dolphin Tournament
Although male captains and mates are allowed, it's the ladies competing for a
$3,000 cash prize slated for the angler who catches the heaviest dolphin during
the daylong tournament. Second- and third-place anglers are to receive $1,500
and $500, respectively, and fourth- and fifth-place anglers will take home prizes.

27th Annual Hospice/Visiting Nurses Association July 4 Picnic
The annual picnic takes place at the luxurious Casa Marina Resort & Beach Club,
located at 1500 Reynolds St. overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The celebration is
scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with fireworks over the Atlantic starting at 9 p.m.,
courtesy of the Key West Rotary Club. Buffet includes hamburgers, hot dogs and

Key West Marlin Tournament
Anglers plie the same waters as by novelist Ernest Hemingway, for $50,000 in
guaranteed cash prizes. Held in conjunction with Key West’s annual Hemingway
Days celebration, the event awards first-place team $25,000, while second- and
third-place prizes earn $10,000 and $5,000, respectively. Teams also can enter
one fun fish (dolphin, tuna, wahoo or released sailfish) per boat per day to add to
their point total. Tournament entry fees are $1,800 per boat for two anglers to
compete in the marlin division and attend tournament social events.

Captain Tony Days
Captain Tony Tarracino, was an American icon, saloonkeeper, boat captain,
gambler and Mayor of Key West. He has been called arguably the city's most
beloved resident. Reporters sought him out, movies were made about his life, and
Jimmy Buffett sang about him in “Last Mango In Paris.” This festival is a
celebration of Tony’s life, featuring storytelling contests, street fairs and film
showings, culminating in a birthday party through the streets of Key West.
